SUMMARY:Spilling the Tea: International Disputes and English law
DESCRIPTION:The law firm GESSEL & 4 Pump Court commercial set of barristers’ chambers cordially invite representatives of Polish companies and their counsel to a lively breakfast discussion on the practical aspects of handling international disputes involving Polish parties and English law, to be held at GESSEL in Warsaw on 1 April 2025 at 9:00 am.\nThe event will provide an opportunity to explore the key considerations that Polish businesses should be aware of in order to effectively navigate legal challenges when English law is applicable to their dispute (potentially in the case of London-seated arbitrations or when English law is applicable to the merits of the dispute). The conversation will take place between the experienced practitioners who routinely take care of cross-border matters for the benefit of Polish parties and who have different backgrounds and perspectives: Polish in-house counsel, Polish external counsel, a solicitor and a barrister called to the bar in England and Wales.\nThe speakers will share their expertise and insights into cross-border cooperation and the effective use of English law by Polish parties based on the real-life examples. The discussion will cover the importance of choosing the jurisdiction / arbitration seat consciously, the practical implications of such a choice and the aspects of the dispute it affects, as well as the consequences of choosing London as the seat of arbitration in particular, including the contexts of setting aside proceedings, potential interim measures and court interventions, as well as enforcement and recognition of arbitral awards.\nWhether you enter into contracts with foreign parties and agree that English law will apply, advise your clients on international matters, are involved in a dispute where English law is applicable, want to know what problems Polish companies encounter in the scenarios where English law is applicable, or are simply curious, this event is for you.\nParticipation is free of charge, however prior registration is required. Seats are limited, secure your spot here and be a part of the conversation: https://warsawdisputesdays.com/.\n \nPanellists:\n• Kajetan Wandowicz, Barrister at 4 Pump Court\n• Joanna Kisielińska-Garncarek, Partner at GESSEL Law Firm\n• Moderator – Waldemar Koper, President of the Polish Association of Corporate Lawyers\n
