International law firm Bird & Bird has strengthened its Dispute Resolution Group with the appointment of commercial disputes specialist Łukasz Gembiś as a partner and head of the Dispute Resolution and Public Procurement teams in Poland. Łukasz joins alongside his team comprising Counsel Paulina Sawicka and associate Kacper Wróblewski who join with immediate effect, while senior associate Patryk Polek will join in August.
With over 12 years’ experience, Łukasz is an experienced litigator specialising in both domestic and international commercial disputes, advising clients in the infrastructure, energy, automotive, transport and real estate sectors. He also specialises in public procurement law, advising on tender strategies and bid procedures, representing clients before the National Appeals Chamber and the common courts in public procurement disputes. Łukasz is highly skilled in claims management, litigation and arbitration relating to high-value construction and infrastructure projects.
Together with his team, Łukasz supports clients end to end, from early procurement and commercial advisory through to dispute resolution, ensuring clients are supported through to resolution before domestic and international courts and tribunals.
The arrival of Łukasz and his team strengthens Bird & Bird’s Poland offering, enhancing our ability to support clients across public procurement and disputes while further diversifying our practice to navigate evolving market demand. The appointment responds to growing client demand for holistic, end-to-end advice on large-scale projects in the construction, IT, energy, transport and e-mobility sectors – from tender and contract structuring through to claims, litigation and arbitration.
Marta Koremba and Rafał Dziedzic, co-heads of Bird & Bird’s Poland office, commented: “Łukasz’s and his team’s arrival marks an important step in strengthening our Poland disputes practice. Łukasz’s public procurement expertise, coupled with his litigation and arbitration background, allows us to support clients across the full lifecycle of complex commercial disputes matters. Together, we are well placed to deliver an even stronger, more comprehensive offering to clients across multiple practice areas.”
Evelyn Tjon-En-Fa and Sophie Eyre, co-heads of Bird & Bird’s international Dispute Resolution Group, said: “Łukasz’s arrival will be a great asset to clients in the Energy & Utilities sector, strengthening our ability to guide them through complex, high-stakes disputes and procurement issues in an increasingly regulated and rapidly evolving market. With experience across both advisory and contentious mandates, he also brings a strong track record in commercial litigation across a range of industries. This broader capability will further strengthen the depth and flexibility of our disputes offering in Poland and across our international network.”
Łukasz added: “Bird & Bird is uniquely positioned to support me in the next stage of my professional journey. Its strong and cohesive presence across Europe, together with established offices in Asia and other high-growth markets, provides an ideal foundation for building a larger, internationally connected disputes and procurement-advisory practice in Poland. The firm also offers a remarkable portfolio of complex, innovative projects and a genuinely technology-driven approach: by harnessing LegalTech and AI tools, we will be able to deliver our services at an even higher level, to the clear benefit of our clients. The firm’s sector focus, global integration and emphasis on innovation align perfectly with my and my team’s ambition to keep evolving alongside our clients’ needs.”
